We are Salgado and Valentin Thomas, two friends who met studying music and started Solymar Records out of a shared obsession for electronic music. The idea for the label came to us on a flight to Miami. We were on our way to the east coast to play a show, and somewhere in the air we ended up making a track together right there in our seats. We called it “Miami.” By the time we landed we knew we had something, not just a track but a way of working, and Solymar grew out of that moment.
For years we shared many sessions in the studio. The label grew out of that friendship and a genuine love for the culture around this music. We wanted a home for the kind of records we kept making, minimal, deep, and progressive house and techno inspired by Latin American culture. Over time we have performed together across the US and South America, and watching our sound connect with crowds on both continents is what keeps us going.
